This week is packed with new music releases from Alessia Cara to G-easy. Along with these new releases comes several exciting announcements regarding upcoming projects from other musicians as well.
Nirvana announced a 30th-anniversary reissue of their wildly successful album Nevermind, dropping November 12th. The band announces this reissue amid a lawsuit with Spencer Elden, who appears on the cover of the album when he was four months old. Elden, now 30 years old, filed the lawsuit about a month ago seeking about $2.5 million dollars in damages and a cease in the usage of his image for the album. Elden claims that the album cover is child pornography, and his image has been exploited for several years without proper consent. The surviving band members have yet to make a public comment regarding the lawsuit.
In other music news this week, Taylor Swift unexpectedly dropped the rerecording of her single “Wildest Dreams” from her 1989 (Taylor’s Version) album due to the song’s recent popularity on Tik Tok. This came as a surprise to fans as she announced the release day of her album Red (Taylor’s Version) back in August. The rerecording is set to release on November 19th. However, Swift has yet to release a single off Red (Taylor’s Version). Online, fans have been awaiting the lead single off Red (Taylor’s Version) but were left shocked when she dropped a single off 1989 instead.
Swift has sprinkled a trail of hints online clearly associated with her 1989 era. These moves have left fans spiraling down a rabbit hole of speculation. The most common fan theory predicts that Swift will surprise drop her rerecording of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) before the previously announced Red (Taylor’s Version). We will just have to keep an eye out, but from experience, I do not think that fans can ever predict exactly what is up Swift’s sleeve. She has mastered the art of surprise and leaving fans just enough information to get them stirring.
