I, like many of us, found comfort during the year 2020 in the form of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The main premise of the game centers around building your own island from the ground up with help from Tom Nook, a constant character who loves money and is always trying to make more. There are several activities and challenges to accomplish like building houses, building stores, creating a museum, and earning the money, and finding fossils and wildlife to do so. Many enjoy the creative design aspect of the game where you get to decorate the entire island and customize patterns for clothing, walkways, and more.
For several months now players begged Nintendo for a major update, and they are finally delivering with new content in November. After a silent summer, last week Nintendo gave a sneak peek of the next major update in a Nintendo Direct video posted on their website.
In the video, players were thrilled to see that The Roost, a cafe inside the museum, is finally coming to New Horizons. The 24-hour cafe existed in earlier versions of the game like New Leaf. Nintendo took things to the next level by also announcing Animal Crossing’s very own Direct coming in October. If you know anything about Nintendo, this is a big deal. The company only announces major updates in their Direct videos.
What we know for sure is that The Roost Cafe is coming in this update and with it brings a new teal pigeon character named Brewster. In previous versions of the game, the cafe allows you to buy beverages and gives you the opportunity to work as a barista in exchange for furniture and other exclusive items. Personally, I hope they change that and allow you to work for bells instead in New Horizons.
Nintendo has kept quiet about what else is in store for this update. However, players have speculated that we are getting new vegetables to grow like squash, carrots, and zucchini. Players have also predicted, based on previous versions, that with the character Brewster comes these things called gyroids. Gyroids are unusual furniture items in the game that move and make noises. They look like the inflatable tube men outside of car dealerships. There is only one that currently appears in the game when you build a bridge or incline.
Brewster commonly gifts you these gyroids once you get to know him. He is similar to the character Sable in the game, shy at first, but generous after speaking to him several times.
It is a very exciting time for Animal Crossing players, this fall and winter update is sure to satisfy this current slump in the game. Nintendo wants to spark new interest in the game before the holiday season. I personally hope this update brings more options to the table for players with new inclines, personalizations, crops, and expansions for Nooks Cranny and Able Sisters.
What are your predictions for this new update?
